About
the College
Being a part of the
Government policy towards Human Resource
Development and Women Empowerment,
it was in March 1979 that the Government Degree College for
Women
came into existence as a full fledged
Arts College for Women. Since its inception,
the College has grown in strength and standard
and is
marching ahead in pursuit of excellence offering
now various other streams apart from Arts stream.
In April 1984, the College took the lead in South
Kashmir in introducing Science Stream for
girl students. It was in March 1997, that the College
was allowed to have Sericulture as one of the
vocational subjects and it was followed by the
introduction of Home Science in the year March 1999
as full-fledged stream and Computer Science Application
(B.C.A.) in 2005.
As a result of an initiative, the college now is
about to introduce yet one more subject in
the form of Tourism and Travel Management.
Shortly, the College shall be having its
own Web site and
on-line facility will be kept available for
the students.
The College has proved to be an apex institution of Higher
Education for female Students in
District Anantnag and its adjoining areas from the adjacent
Districts with primary objective to provide
learning opportunities to the female students in a very much
conducive atmosphere and in keeping with the
recognized standards of academic excellence. The College is
committed to provide an intellectually
stimulating environment for productive learning with an aim
to enhance the educational, economical
and cultural horizons of the girl students in seeking
education
at an under-Graduate level.
In the year 2004, the College has been Accredited with B + +
Grade by the National
Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC), Banglore, an
autonomous
body set by the University
Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. Getting B + + Grade
means a score
of 85 – 90 marks on the
rating scale of 100 points. This has been possible with the
hard work,
dedication and active
cooperation of every one in the College.
The College is going to be re-accredited by the NACC Peer
Team in between
June-July
this year i.e.2010 and do expect much more improved grade
over B + + Grade.
